The U.S. DOT’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is planning to conduct a new truck parking survey and assess the truck parking shortage problem.A request to approve the planned survey has been forwarded to the White House. The difficulty of finding truck parking is pushing drivers out of the business and contributing to the industry’s persistent driver shortage. The Nevada Trucking Association says that the Las Vegas area, as well as the entire country, is facing a serious commercial truck parking crisis.
One issue that’s currently getting a lot of attention in the trucking industry is the shortage of truck parking, especially in the Western states. With talks of cutting programs and changing tax rates, the government simply isn’t focused on the parking shortage at the moment. One of the biggest factors causing the truck parking shortage is the amount of money it would cost to make the necessary changes. Carriers put it way down on their list of issues — ranking it ninth in priority on the recently released annual survey by the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI).
