If 1976 was year zero for punk rock in the U.K. with the Sex Pistols and Clash blowing up and taking over the music press, 1977 was the year record shops were flooded with singles by all sorts of bands capitalizing on the sound, fury, and attitude of punk.

We looked back at hundreds of albums released in 1977 and whittled the list down to the 50 that we think represent the cream of the year’s crop. View reviews, ratings, news & more regarding your favorite band.

By the time this album hit in late 1977, the Sex Pistols had already shaken up the UK with the release of their first two singles, “Anarchy in the U.K.” and “God Save the Queen.” The full album featured these two songs along with 10 other doses of snotty punk … But since much of the best punk music of '77 was issued only on seven-inch vinyl, I knew this would have to be a two-part project. Others argue its true birth was in the 1970s with bands like the Ramones, New York Dolls, and Blondie.
